Parents everywhere have a messy problem—dirty highchairs. But mine went a little bit deeper than that to created the original IKEA highchair covered placemat.
The first covered placemat was created out of my own necessity when I was diagnosed with postpartum thyroiditis after the birth of my son.
The fatigue I experienced was beyond what I could handle on top of the sleepless nights of motherhood. And the constant cleaning of the highchair tray was just adding to my exhaustion.
In between naps on the tray, I went down a Pinterest rabbit hole to search for the perfect solution to my problem, but every time I came up empty-handed.
So, I set out to create my own, and after three prototypes and six rounds of sampling, I had the perfect product!
Not only did it make cleaning up after meals so incredibly easy, but the buttery soft non-slip surface also made it easier for my son’s little hands to grasp food, explore textures, and smoosh new flavours together.
Plus, it completely transformed our highchair into something we could store in plain sight!
I started selling my placemats on Etsy, and they took off like a rocket!
I still can't believe that my little product has saved the sanity of over 10,000 parents - it's crazy!
And as with any product created to solve a problem you've experienced; I continue to evolve and improve it over time.
Introducing new colour ways, amending the design to cover even more of the tray and contour even closer for a more aesthetically pleasing look.
